Kochanski & Partners is representing Polish tennis player Katarzyna Kawa pro bono in her dispute against the International Tennis Federation and the French Tennis Federation.
The dispute concerns a decision made by the ITF and the FTF to exclude Kawa from this year’s Roland Garros tennis tournament (also known as the French Open) based on her failing a COVID-19 test, despite tests taken both before that one and shortly thereafter, after she had returned to Poland, coming back negative.
“Due to the fact that I was not completely convinced about the effectiveness of this test, I made another test in Poland," Kawa stated on her Instagram account. It turned out to be NEGATIVE! Within 5 days, 2 out of 3 tests are negative. I was healthy and I’ve always been. The tests are not 100 percent reliable, as we all know about, On the one hand, it is a relief, on the other hand, it is a huge disappointment, anger and sadness. The chance taken and the effort put into it hurts cruelly. The tournament protocols say: one positive test – withdrawal from the tournament and isolation. in one test, if it is commonly known that it is not 100 percent effective? I CANNOT AND I WILL FIGHT FOR A CHANGE."
Kawa is currently ranked 128 on the WTA list and, at this year’s US Open, qualified for a Grand Slam main draw for the first time in her career.
Kochanski & Partners’ team includes Partner Marek Jezewski and Associate Natalia Godula.
