We're now accepting submissions for the 2018 CEE Deal of the Year Awards - the most prestigious peer-selected legal awards in Central and Eastern Europe - with winners to be announced at the CEE Legal Matters Annual Banquet and DOTY Awards Ceremony on March 28, 2019, in Budapest.

Last Year's Awards

In 2017 CEE Legal Matters launched the CEE Deal of the Year Awards, recognizing the largest, most important, and most complicated deals in Central and Eastern Europe. Accordingly on June 6, 2018, at the premier Deal of the Year Awards Banquet in Prague, over 100 private practitioners and senior in-house counsel from across CEE gathered to celebrate the lawyers and law firms that played such critical roles in bringing those deals across the finish line. (A complete summary of the event and identification of the winners can be found in the special issue of the CEE Legal Matters magazine that followed it, here).

Explanation and Methodology

To ensure impartiality and confidence in the awards, the editors of CEE Legal Matters play no role in the evaluation of the nominees or the final selection of winners. Instead, submissions are evaluated by a two-tiered panel of prominent lawyers from across the region who do not themselves stand to benefit from the final results.

Directions for those wishing to make submissions are under the "Submission Guidelines" below and the mandatory submission template can be found here. Submissions must be made on or before January 4, 2019. Those responses which satisfy mandatory submission criteria will then be automatically forwarded to our Shortlist Panels, consisting of senior partners at leading firms in each CEE jurisdiction who have agreed to carefully review the submissions and rank them for complexity, size, and market significance. Their review will result in shortlists for each market in which a minimum of three deals were submitted.

The final nominees will be announced on February 1st. The shortlists will be forwarded to the Final Selection Committee, consisting of CEE Legal Matters Knowledge Partners and attendees to our annual End of Year Summit, who will then independently rank the final nominees (though they will not be allowed to vote on deals in their own specific markets, or in markets where deals their own firms worked on are being considered), leading to identification of the ultimate winner in each market.

The final winners will be announced at the CEE Legal Matters Annual Banquet and DOTY Awards Ceremony scheduled for March 28, 2019 in Budapest.
