Wojciech Kapica, former Partner and Head of SMM Legal's Financial Law Department, has joined the Lawarton law office.

Kapica specializes in banking law, capital markets and insurance law, supervisory policy, and corporate governance in supervised entities.

Kapica spent over three years with SMM Legal, where he continues as an Of Counsel. He previously spent almost two years as a Counsel with Gawronski & Partners, five months as a Regulatory Affairs Consultant with Maruta Wachta, and over two years with Bird & Bird in a similar position. He also spent over two years as the General Counsel of Dom Maklerski TMS Brokers, over three years as a Senior Specialist with the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, and almost two years in-house with the Getin Noble Bank Group.

With Kapica joining, Lawarton has also announced a new vision for the firm, as "a result of the combination of its partners' over 22 years of expertise, mainly in banking and investment processes – a vision of tailor-made, cost-effective, legal solutions for business."

Lawarton focuses on three core pillars: banking and capital markets, corporate and transactions, and strategic commercial advisory. Additionally, the firm will "host a number of practices ranging from legal advice in the area of IT system implementations to anti-money laundering / combating the financing of terrorism compliance." The firm was founded by Warsaw Bar Association attorney-at-law Wojciech Lugowski, in 2019. According to Lawarton, Lugowski is "known for dozens of successfully completed M&A and investment processes."

Lugowski, a University of Warsaw graduate, has previously spent three and a half years with Brillaw Mikulski & Partners, over two and a half years with Lawards Sulej & Wojcik of Dacheng's Global Legal Service Network, and another two and a half years with the Stopczyk & Mikulski Law Office.
