Ijdelea & Associates has advised the Eiffel Investment Group on the creation, financing, and ongoing development of a joint-venture partnership with R.Power Renewables for the development of a one-gigawatt portfolio of solar projects in Romania.

Energy is the major topic in Romania, with updated regulations on energy trading and offshore gas production already being in place, and the business sector hoping for a legal framework on hydrogen projects, according to Ijdelea & Associates Managing Partner Oana Ijdelea.

Ijdelea & Associates has provided legal assistance to Black Sea Oil & Gas and its co-venture partners in obtaining the Upstream Pipeline Operating License for the Midia Gas Development Project (MDG) from the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE).

In 1874, a French writer, forerunner of science-fiction literature, named Jules Verne (1828-1905) wrote in his famous novel The Mysterious Island about a world where “water will one day be used as a fuel, that hydrogen and oxygen, which constitute it, used alone or simultaneously will provide an inexhaustible source of heat and light of an intensity that coal cannot have.” More than 110 years after his death, hydrogen is a hot topic in the global energy industry.

Navigating the maze of zoning, planning, and land-use-approval processes can result in significant delays and escalating costs, which may spell the difference between a development project’s success and failure. With the economic growth of Romania over the last few years having generated investor interest in developing new real estate projects, particularly in well-established urban areas like the country’s capital, the authorities have repeatedly expanded and amended the country’s urban planning laws.

According to the 2019 CEE By the Numbers issue of the CEE Legal Matters magazine, almost two third of all lawyers and almost half of all partners at ranked Romanian law firms are women. As Romania’s population, economy, and (therefore) legal market are much larger than its chief competitors in both categories, its achievements in this area are particularly significant. Romania’s most prominent female managing partners insist that, indeed, sexism, in the Romanian legal industry, is essentially a non-factor.

Will Romania Become One of the European Powers in the Energy Sector? The answer seemed clear last year: Yes it will, as the recent gas discoveries in the Black Sea offer Romania the opportunity to become an important voice on the European Union’s energy market.
