BPV Braun Partners in Prague has announced that firm attorney Gabriela Jirakova has recently become a certified GDPR professional and is able to perform the office of external data protection officer for clients of the firm.

The new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires companies to establish a special position of data protection officer as of May 25, 2018. According to a summary provided by bpv Braun Partners, "this data protection officer acts as an 'inspector' in the company, overseeing data protection, making sure that the company handles its employees’ and customers’ personal data in compliance with the GDPR, and acting as a point of contact for the Personal Data Protection Office. The officer is also responsible for collecting information for further personal data processing, analysis, checking internal processing for compliance with relevant legislation, advising and making recommendations for the company. The new position of data protection officer applies to every company that monitors individuals as part of its core business or that processes sensitive personal data in bulk, whether in the private or public sector."

According to bpv Braun Partners, "companies can appoint one of their own employees as data protection officer or engage an individual or organization to provide those services externally. Officers are appointed if they meet the qualification requirements for the office based on proven legal knowledge and relevant experience in personal data protection. They must also have knowledge of national and EU legislation regarding personal data protection as well as being familiar with the company’s corporate structure. bpv Braun Partners can perform the office of external data protection officer and also provide legal assistance to clients that employ their own officer, extending the legal advice it offers in the area of personal data protection and expanding its portfolio of services connected with efficiently implementing the GDPR in company structures."

“Engaging the services of an external data protection officer relieves clients of the financial burden involved in employing a full-time officer themselves,” explained Gabriela Jirakova. According to the firm, "this means clients of bpv braun Partners have access to up-to-date information on legislative changes in personal data protection, as well as complete legal expertise, analyses tailored to their needs, and training sessions.
