Ijdelea & Associates has announced it is advising Black Sea Oil & Gas on the development of an offshore wind farm in the Black Sea targeting a capacity of three gigawatts.
Black Sea Oil & Gas is a company backed by the Carlyle Group, a private equity, alternative asset management, and financial services corporation based in the US with USD 376 billion of assets under management. Last year, BSOG produced Romania's first new gas from the Black Sea through the Midia Gas Development project.
"The estimates regarding the production of wind energy through fixed installations in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea are very promising,” BSOG CEO Mark Beacom said. “However, one of the biggest challenges of developing a wind farm in the marine area is the attempt to secure and then authorize an energy corridor from the offshore production facilities to the SEN. Crossing highly regulated areas on land and water such as protected natural areas, military areas, tourist areas, archaeological sites and historical monuments, anchorage areas, ports, and seaways, as well as securing access to land and obtaining the support of the targeted communities, coexistence with fishing activities, and the detection and avoidance of unexploded ordnance existing on the seabed are some of these challenges, and the MGD project infrastructure has successfully overcome them all.”
Back in 2022, Ijdelea & Associates helped Black Sea Oil & Gas obtain the pipeline license for the Midia Gas Development Project (as reported by CEE Legal Matters on June 24, 2022) and advised the company on the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for a 50-megawatt photovoltaic project (as reported by CEE Legal Matters on May 4, 2022).
The Ijdelea & Associates team included Managing Partner Oana Ijdelea, Partner Siranus Hahamian, and Senior Associates Alexandru Popescu, Luiza Catalinescu, and Lorena Vasvari.
