Schoenherr has advised the Catalyst Romania Fund II on a EUR 2 million transaction involving a sports subscription start-up by ESX.
The Catalyst Romania Fund II is a venture capital fund operating in Southeast Europe. Catalyst launched the first private equity and venture capital fund in Romania in 2012. The company prioritizes investments in fast-growing sectors.
ESX is the largest Romanian sports center network, according to Schoenherr. It has "grown rapidly in the past 18 months, with monthly turnover reaching almost EUR 1 million. Their app offers subscriptions with unlimited access to approximately 500 local sports centers and currently counts 200,000 members."
“The investment allows ESX to strengthen its market position by expanding at a higher rate and opening up new cross-border prospects,” the firm reported.
The Schoenherr team included Partner Madalina Neagu, Senior Attorney at Law Mihaela Popescu, and Attorney at Law Alexandra Smahon.
