Traian Briciu was elected as the new President of the National Association of Romanian Bars (the "Uniunea Nationala a Barourilor din Romania," or UNBR), at Romania's Lawyers Congress of June 6-7, 2019, replacing outgoing President Gheorghe Florea, who did not run for re-election.

Briciu is a professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Bucharest and is leads Romania's National Institute for Training and Development of Attorneys. He has been a Vice President of the UNBR since 2015.

Five Vice Presidents were elected to serve with Briciu: Bucharest-based Daniel Fenechiu of Fenechiu Savu & Associates; Alba-based Mihai Baco of Baco & Asociatii; Dolj-based Ion Turculeanu of Turculeanu & Asociatii; Iasi-based solo practitioner Marius Sebastian Striblea; and Bucharest-based Ion Dragne of Dragne & Asociatii. Dragne has also been the Dean of the Bucharest Bar since 2015 (that election was reported by CEE Legal Matters on September 2, 2015).

CEE Legal Matters interviewed outgoing President Gheorghe Florea, who held the position for the past 12 years, in June 2014.
