Noerr Partner Joerg Menzer will be the new Secretary-General of the International Bar Association, starting from January 1, 2023.

According to Noerr, Menzer was “elected to this office by the large majority of the membership organization of the world’s largest lawyers’ organization who met at the annual conference in Miami. The IBA is the foremost international organization of legal practitioners, bar associations, law societies, and law firms. Since its founding in 1947, the IBA has grown to its present membership of more than 100,000 lawyers and law firms, as well as some 190 bar associations and law societies from more than 170 countries.”

According to the firm, Menzer has been active in the IBA for many years and, in his role as Chair of the Section on Public and Professional Interest, is already a part of the organization’s management. Menzer heads Noerr's Bucharest office and specializes in M&A transactions.

“The rule of law principles are coming increasingly under pressure,” Menzer commented. “The IBA makes a valuable contribution in this area, in particular in relation to safeguarding the independence of our profession.”

“We are delighted at Joerg Menzer’s election as the Secretary-General of the IBA,” Noerr Co-Managing Partner Alexander Ritvay added. “Joerg and Noerr have championed the interests of the legal profession in many ways within the IBA over the past few years.”
