On January 1, 2022, a “historic tax reform” – as referred to by the Polish government – came into force, with major changes implemented into Poland’s tax system. Just a few months later, another tax reform package, now known as the Polish Deal 2.0, was introduced. We spoke with Penteris Head of Tax Artur Plutowski and PwC Legal Partner Katarzyna Komorowska to learn what was the driving force behind the update and how it will impact the business sector in Poland.

Schoenherr, working with Legance, has advised Nexi on its agreement with Privredna Banka Zagreb and Intesa Sanpaolo-controlled company PBZ Card to purchase PBZ Card’s merchant acquiring business in Croatia for EUR 180 million. Reportedly, PwC Legal and KPMG Legal advised Intesa Sanpaolo.

PwC Legal has advised Benefit Systems on its acquisition of 75% of the shares and agreement on the optional acquisition of 25% of shares in Lunching.pl. MMP Adwokaci reportedly advised the unidentified sellers on the deal.

On February 18, 2021, following a five-year preparation period, the Saeima – the parliament of the Republic of Latvia – adopted amendments to the country’s Advocacy Law, addressing, inter alia, the proper corporate form for law firms. Going forward, in Latvia, a law firm must either be a partnership (either general or limited) or a limited liability company. CEE Legal Matters spoke with several Latvian lawyers about the newly amended law.
