Dragos Vilau, former Managing Partner of Vilau & Mitel, together with Partners Iuliana Dejescu, Ionut Lupsa, and Andrei Stefanovici, have left Vilau & Mitel to start a new law firm: Vilau si Asociatii.

The EBRD has participated in the Initial Public Offering organized by Electrica SA, for the issuance of new shares representing 105 per cent of the company’s share capital and floated on the Bucharest Stock Exchange as well as on the London Stock Exchange, via Global Depository Receipts (“GDRs”).

Lawyers from RTPR Allen & Overy have counseled the EBRD on its EUR 10 million loan to SC Raja SA Constanta, one of the largest water utilities in Romania. SC Raja SA Constanta — an existing EBRD client that previously received a EUR 33 million loan in 2010  operates in the counties of Constanta and Ialomita with a growing presence in Calarasi, Dambovita, and Ilfov.

In mid-July it was reported that Partner Perry Zizzi would be leaving Badea Clifford Chance in Bucharest to return to Dentons, where he had worked (under the Salans brand) before leaving 7 years before. On August 4 the news broke that long-time Ukrainian expert Adam Mycyk had joined Dentons as well. Mycyk moved over from Chadbourne & Parke, as that firm winds down its operations in KievWe reached out to Zizzi and Mycyk to ask them about their decisions to join Dentons.

Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii has confirmed that it acted for the Japanese Marubeni Corporation in its joint venture with Romanian state-owned power producer ELCEN to build a 250 MW gas-fired electricity plant in the central Romanian county of Mures.

Electrocentrale Bucuresti (ELCEN), the largest producer of termic energy in Romania, has signed a EUR 170 million joint venture agreement with Marubeni Corporation on July 29 to build a gas heating plant of approximately 250 MW in Fantanele, Romania.
