On October 1, 2016 WKB Wiercinski, Kwiecinski, Baehr appointed a new Partner: Marcin Smolarek, who will be responsible for the firm’s Banking and Finance practice.

Hungarian competition expert Marton Horanyi has returned to Kajtar Takacs Hegymegi-Barakonyi Baker & McKenzie as a Partner, where he join the team specializing in competition law, government funds, commercial practices and consumer protection, as well as European Union law.

Schoenherr is reporting that, on September 30, 2016, Michael Lagler was elected as the new Managing Partner at the firm, where he will take over from Christoph Lindinger, who has led the Central and Eastern European law firm for the past 16 years. Lagler's term will begin at the start of the firm’s next fiscal year, on February 1, 2017.

Sorainen has announced that Partner Allar Joks — who had been campaigning to become the President of Estonia since May — has returned to the firm’s Estonian office, Joks was one of two candidates who advanced to the final round of voting last Saturday, September 24, 2016, but neither of candidate received the number of votes required to become president. After four rounds of voting, the country remains without a head of state.
