In The Corner Office, we invite Senior and Managing Partners at law firms from across the region to share information about their careers, management styles, and strategies. For this issue, we asked them to describe their least favorite part of their jobs. 

In order to ease the sophisticated and multifaceted disputes of today’s market; arbitration is started to become a widely selected resolution method also in Turkey similar to the global market; especially due to its concept of customizability, speed and efficiency. As each commercial transaction possesses a unique nature in terms of its components and conditions; the one who concludes complex transaction should be preferring arbitration; a tailor-made method of alternative dispute resolution. 

Istanbul, as one of the most populated cities in the world with a population of almost 15 million people, uses various modes of public transportation which are metro, light rail, funicular, tram, suburban train, bus rapid transit, highway bus, sea bus, and ferryboat. Apart from these modes of public transportation, people in Istanbul often use private transportation which might be listed as private car, private highway bus, taxi, and sea taxi. 

Ranking services form a critical part of the law firm landscape in CEE as around the world, and law firm marketing and business development functions in the region spend many weeks or months each year preparing their submissions for those ranking services they believe are most widely read and influential. Still, not everybody is convinced the ranking services are as effective or valuable as they could be. Thus, for this issue, we asked the law firm marketing and BD experts around CEE: “What one change would you most like to see made to the law firm rankings to make them more useful/effective?” 

The “Communiqué on Trust Seal in Electronic Commerce” (“Communiqué”) has been published in the Official Gazette dated 6 June 2017 and numbered 30088 and came into effect as of the publication date. Within the frame of such Communiqué, following subjects have been regulated;

Retail industry leads Turkish economy in recent years and shopping malls are the most essential figures of such industry. Shopping malls have recently undergone a challenging period by virtue of social and economic developments throughout the country.

The Moral Law Firm has advised Borusan EnBW Enerji Yatirimlari ve Uretim A.S. — a joint venture of Borusan Holding A.S. and EnBW Energie Baden-Wurttemberg AG — on its USD 38.5 million acquisition of the Kiyikoy Wind Power Plant from Aksa Energy. The Cakmak Law Firm, Cakmak-Gokce Law firm, and White & Case advised Aksa Energy on the deal, which is contingent on approval from Turkey's EMRA and Competition Authority.

Moral Law Firm has advised the Kardesler Family on the sale of Tozmetal Ticaret ve Sanayi A.S., a powder metallurgy parts manufacturer focusing on hydraulic pump components for the European automotive market which reported sales of EUR 24 million in 2016, to GKN, a premier manufacturer of oil pumps and powder metal components. The Cakmak-Gokce Attorney Partnership, the Turkish arm of White & Case, advised GKN on the deal.
