In contrast to the cold and dark Warsaw night outside, CEE Legal Matters’ December 8th, 2016 end-of-year CEE Expert Summit at the city’s Hotel Bristol was dominated by heated conversation and determined efforts to bring illumination.

An annual tradition, the CEE Expert Summit brings together experts from law firms and special guests from around the region to look back at the year in CEE drawing to close and expectations for the year to come. This year’s event was graced by the participation of Panagiotis Drakopoulos (Managing Partner at Drakopoulos Greece), Besnik Duraj (Partner at Drakopoulos Albania), Horst Ebhardt (Partner at Wolf Theiss Vienna), Patricia Gannon (Senior Partner of Karanovic Nikolic in Serbia), Ron Given (Co-Managing Partner of Wolf Theiss Poland), Christophe Huet (Partner at CMS Russia), Uros Ilic (Managing Partner of ODI Law in Slovenia), Mykola Stetsenko (Managing Partner at Avellum in Ukraine), and Ilko Stoyanov (Partner at Schoenherr Bulgaria), joined by special guests Judith Gliniecki (General Counsel at CEE Equity Partners) and George Roukov (Head of International Business Development at Credissimo PLC).

The wide-ranging conversation started with a review of the state of business and the opportunities and challenges for lawyers in the many markets of CEE, then turned to the more general trends and developments across the industry, including the changing expectations of young lawyers and the potentially disruptive effect of technology on law firm business.

A full summary of the conversation can be found in the special January 2017 issue of the CEE Legal Matters magazine, along with a full 2016 Table of Deals, reflecting all deals and cases reported by law firms across the region.
